A Season of Renewal at the Clothing Closet

This summer at The Clothing Closet in Purcellville, a major renovation was undertaken to our home in the historic Pancoast building, now more than 120 years old.

As you can imagine, a building of this age requires continual care. Over the summer, the building owner began renovating the upstairs apartments and discovered that the work would require access through the store. To bring everything up to code, we had to close each side of the shop for a significant stretch of time.

Through it all, we are deeply grateful for the patience and support of our customers and visitors. So many of you continued to shop and donate throughout all the construction and changes, as well as share words of encouragement and understanding with our staff. Your support is what allows us not only to keep this historic space alive but also to fill it with renewed purpose.

One of the highlights of the season was a visit from Mr. Pancoast’s daughter, Pam Pancoast Sides, who stops by once a year.  Though the Pancoast Brothers Store is no longer here, the building is a place where neighbors can shop affordably, donate generously, and experience community. Her visits remind us that while the times have changed, the heart of this building has always been about caring for people. Each time Pam visits, she’s moved to tears, seeing how her family’s store continues to serve Purcellville.

Now, with fall upon us, The Clothing Closet is back in full swing! Our racks are full of new autumn arrivals like cozy sweaters, boots, jackets, and seasonal items for the whole family. We’re also excited to welcome back one of our favorite weekly gatherings: Storytime on Wednesday mornings at 9:30. It’s a special time for preschoolers to enjoy children’s stories while parents shop for what they need.

Every purchase and every donation at The Clothing Closet helps keep Tree of Life Ministries Gospel Enterprises going so we may continue to support local families in need. When you shop here, you will find more than additions to your wardrobe. You’re helping us give back to the community and extend hope, and faith to our partners. Stop in this fall, browse the racks, bring a friend, and be part of the story that’s been unfolding in this historic building for more than a century. We can’t wait to see you.
