Ministry Spotlight: Spiritual Growth

Spiritual Growth operates as the “trunk” of the Tree of Life, feeding and supporting all our ministries across the 5 Branches. It is the central focus of our mission to reach out to the poor and needy in our communities with the love of Jesus Christ. We implement Spiritual Growth through 3 teams: PRAYER, CARE and SHARE.

Our PRAYER TEAM prays for every prayer request that we receive. As we talk to Partners about material needs, we ask how we can lift up their needs to our Heavenly Father. Our Prayer Leaders contact partners directly to pray with them, and our prayer team of 300+ volunteers prays for them weekly. If you would like to be a PRAYER LEADER or join the prayer team, please email Deb Saine at dsaine@tolministries.org.

Our CARE TEAM cares for partners who are alone or in crisis by reaching out to them via phone or in person to check in, pray and share Scripture with them. We currently have 23 Care Volunteers ministering to 50+ Partners. If you would like to be a CARE VOLUNTEER and join our CARE TEAM, please contact Laura Barr at lbarr@tolministries.org.

Our SHARE TEAM goes into the community wherever the poor and needy are gathered to share God’s word through praise and worship events. At such events, we enact Bible skits, share the gospel, perform worship music and preach. We have recently visited Waterford Baptist Church, The Well, Good Shepherd Alliance and plan to visit Loudoun Rehab and Morningside House soon! If you would like more information on joining the SHARE TEAM, contact Chaplain Wayne Ruckman at wruckman@tolministries.org.

Whatever we do and wherever we go, Tree of Life wants to share the love of Jesus, pray for people, and care for them by forming long-lasting relationships with them. We’d love for you to join us!

Sterling’s Kids Dental Clinic

On Saturday, September 17th, our Sterling Center sponsored a Kids Dental Clinic in coordination with Drs. Joon & Julie Coe of Dental Innovations of Virginia. We were able to provide:

  • Free dental care to 25 children
  • Free clothing to over 30 Partners and their families
  • Free haircuts to 15 Partners

We were blessed by the tremendous support of Grace Covenant Church, who supplied volunteers as part of their Grace Loves outreach effort and donated to our cause. It was a beautiful day filled with fellowship and family fun thanks to Axcess Studios, LLC who provided a DJ and music and sweet treats from HoneyBee Creamery! What a joy to impact the community in this way!

What’s more, Axcess Studios helped us create this wonderful fundraising video!

Labor Day TopGolf Fundraiser

Our Annual TopGolf Fundraiser event was held on Labor Day, Monday, September 5th!  It was a success, raising $5,746! We had a fun morning with over 70 of our faithful supporters to include members of our SimplyBe Coffee family! Thank you to the participants who generously donated to our cause, especially our Bay Sponsors Clarion Wealth Management Partners and Bank of Clarke County!

GO FUND THEM: UPDATE!

We have reached 21% of our goal of $100,000.  As of 10/5/22, we have raised $21,252.00!

STAFF SPOTLIGHT: ERIN

Dedicated, focused, FUN! Erin is a trifecta in the shop and has worked very hard this year to grow her job skills. When we have a new staff member we spend some time allowing them to observe all operations and see where their job interests may lead them. Very quickly Erin showed interest in learning to make drinks. She takes her job very seriously, but always delivers the beverages with a heaping side of joy! Her favorite drink is an Americano and loves it when her friends and family come to see her in the shop.

WHAT’S YOUR CALLING?

I’ve been studying 2 Peter 1:3-4:  His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. He has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

My calling is not defined by me, nor is it defined in earthly terms. My calling begins with God and focuses on His glory and goodness. The moment I try to define my calling through my job, material things or other people, I will notice that my focus is on those things and not totally on Him.

God has called me to participate in the divine nature by sending the Holy Spirit into my heart. Where I go, He goes, and where He goes, I go. The emphasis is on following God rather than going my own way and hoping that He follows. Since I desire to escape the corruption of the world, I want Him to lead, so that my calling will be to follow the Holy One who has given me eternal life.

So what’s your calling? If it is to follow God, then you are on the right track! If it is to obey Jesus, also very good! If it is to listen to the Holy Spirit as He instructs where you should go, what a blessing that is! Through everything we do, when we do it with God leading, we can follow Him into His good, pleasing and perfect will.

May you be blessed,
Chaplain Wayne
