Leesburg’s Dental Clinic & Community Health Fair

On Saturday, May 21st, our Leesburg Center hosted its first Dental Clinic and Community Health Fair at Crossroads Baptist Church. In collaboration with Dr. Wollman of The Dental Co. of Leesburg and Dr. Ashton of Cardinal Park Family Dental Care, free dental care was provided to 32 children and 8 adults in need!

Our Healthcare Branch along with several healthcare vendors, including Mosaic Virginia, Lighthouse Family Medicine and Wellness, and Inova Community Health, offered free health information and as well as free flu and COVID vaccinations. The Office of the Attorney General also provided information for elderly abuse prevention.

Our Spiritual Growth team along with the local pastors shared the Gospel message and offered prayer with all attendees. Additionally, thanks to donations from businesses and volunteers, Partner families were also offered free haircuts, free clothing and family entertainment!

We wish to thank our generous dental partners and their staff, Crossroads Baptist ChurchSt. Timothy and St. Athanasius Coptic Orthodox Church, and our staff and amazing volunteers for helping us impact the community!

Lifeskills Branch: New Ministry

Our outreach to individuals with disabilities continues to expand with a brand-new ministry headquartered in Purcellville – Work Heartily! Based on Colossians 3:23: “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,” this ministry aims to place individuals with disabilities/special needs in the workplace. Beyond the 9 individuals we employ at our Gospel Enterprises (SBC 8, TCC 1), we want to be able to help more individuals attain the dream of employment in our county. Lead by volunteer, Marcia Owens, we have already matched 5 Partners with new jobs!

The Clothing Closet: 2-Year Anniversary

The Clothing Closet has stayed true to its mission of serving the community with the love of Jesus Christ, offering clothing free of charge to those in need while providing a lovely boutique shopping environment for all. We celebrate our 2-year anniversary this month and are so excited about what is to come for this Gospel Enterprise! Just this year, The Clothing Closet has provided 186 individuals with free clothing, shoes and accessories! We are Clothing with a Cause!

SimplyBe Coffee Earns Two Awards

It has been quite an exciting few weeks for SimplyBe Coffee!! On May 4th, the Leesburg Economic Development Commission held its 21st Annual Leesburg Business Awards. We were honored to have been selected for the Community Ambassador Award in recognition of “promoting a positive image of Leesburg as a business or tourist destination.”

Then on May 11th, SourceAmerica, an organization that connects employers to a national network of nonprofit agencies that hire people with disabilities, announced SimplyBe Coffee as the recipient of their Business Partnership Award! We were nominated by ECHO, one of our business partners, for supplying employment for six of their program participants during the Covid-19 pandemic. **Click HERE to watch SourceAmerica’s video about SBC!

While it certainly is an encouragement to be recognized by members inside and outside our community, all glory and honor belong to our Lord, Jesus Christ. May He be glorified through this Gospel Enterprise and all the lives touched by its ministry!

You Can Make a Difference

You may be aware that we were unsuccessful with 2 recent grant applications leaving a budget shortfall currently at $163,000. The grants would have been used to sustain employment at SimplyBe Coffee and to fund Food Pantry operations (food deliveries are currently 44% higher than 2021!).

If you are able to help bridge the funding gap, please donate HERE.

YOU INVITED ME IN

This month I have been dwelling on our theme verses, Matthew 25:35-36, which are the verses that spawned our Tree of Life five branch model. When Jesus talks about the hungry, thirsty, homeless, naked, sick and those in prison, He was giving a message that whenever we help “the least of these,” we are helping and honoring Him. I dug a little deeper to understand the meaning of each of these, and this verse stood out: “…I was a stranger and you invited me in…”  Matthew 25:35.

Digging into this verse reveals that Jesus is talking more than just giving someone a place to sleep. He is literally saying that there is a person “on the outside” who doesn’t have anyone to turn to. It shows that I have a “family” on the inside, and wants me to invite the person on the outside to come inside and join my family in a loving relationship.

When we share the gospel with someone, we are in effect doing just that. We see someone who needs to know Christ, and invite them in to “join our family.” Just in the past week, three people accepted Jesus as their Savior! Please join me in praising God for His mighty work in their lives!

May you be blessed,
Chaplain Wayne
