Meet Leesburg’s New Regional Coordinator

Please give a warm welcome to Leesburg’s new Regional Coordinator, Jerri Lynn Baratta! She is a faithful supporter of Tree of Life and long-time volunteer, serving in the Food Pantry in both Leesburg and Sterling. We first met Jerri Lynn during our seven week Prayer Journey, which culminated in the launch of our Sterling Center. However, we are grateful that God has chosen to bring Jerri Lynn to serve in this capacity. She and her husband, Jim, along with their two boys live in Ashburn. In her spare time, Jerri Lynn loves to read, garden, hike and jog.

Lifeskills Branch: New Seminars

With three new and committed Lifeskills Branch Directors, Tree of Life is now offering revamped and expanded programming to help better equip our partners for healthy and happy lives.

On March 23rd, Leesburg’s Lifeskills Team presented its first Jobs Seminar to over 20 individuals from across the county who are looking to secure new or improved employment. The presentation, co-hosted by Crossroads Jobs of Leesburg and Sterling, provided information on resume writing, job search resources, interview coaching, networking tips and the identification of other employment program partnerships. A lively Q&A followed the presentation allowing the team to address specific issues partners often encounter in their job searches and to share more about TOL’s other ministries. The evening ended with prayer and opportunities for future prayer support and connection.

In Purcellville, a First Time Homebuyers Seminar will be offered the first Saturday of each month to provide individuals with a roadmap to help make the dream of owning a home a reality. Jessyca Rivas, a former partner and licensed Keller Williams real estate agent, is hosting this seminar that she developed along with our Purcellville Lifeskills Team. This seminar kicks off on Saturday, April 2nd!

Finally, the English Classes Ministry in Sterling is ready to launch! The first ESOL class is scheduled to start May 4th! Contact the Sterling Regional Coordinator for more details at emiah@tolministries.org.

THE POWER OF PRAYER

This month I’m thinking about the power of prayer. John 17 contains a prayer that Jesus prayed, which includes: “I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you.”

Prayer is simply connecting with God in such a way that I unify with God on His purpose, not the purpose I define for myself.  I lift my request up to God asking Him to reveal His purpose. In all cases, I should be praying “to become one,” just like Jesus and the Father are one. God’s purpose becomes my purpose, and I in turn wait for Him to reveal His purpose to me as I pray.

I am blessed by this thought as I pray for partners. My purpose is to lift their request to the One who has the power to bless them. God reveals His answer in His timing, not mine, which gives me the opportunity to magnify His Name—no matter how He answers the prayer.

When we pray in Jesus’ Name, we pray with the power that will carry our prayer to God the Father!

Please join me as we pray for our Tree of Life family today—for partners, volunteers and supporters.

May you be blessed,
Chaplain Wayne
