Tree of Life Ministries is a not-for-profit organization incorporated in the Commonwealth of Virginia in 2012. Both the journey of life and the Tree of Life begin with Jesus Christ. Jesus said that He came to give life, life to the full. Filled with compassion, He reached out to the poor and needy extending the opportunity of full life to all He met. In 2008, Purcellville Baptist Church in Loudoun County Virginia committed to set aside 10% of all annual giving to meet the needs of the poor in their western Loudoun community. From there, the Tree of Life Ministries was born.
An essential element of Tree of Life is to reach into the community. On too many occasions,
we expect people to come to the Church but Jesus made clear throughout the Gospels that
life happens in the community and that is where we should be as Christians.
Scripture teaches that “hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a Tree
of Life.” Our own hope within Tree of Life is to rally the Christian community to fulfill those longings while constantly affirming that the source of abundant life is Jesus Christ.
OUR PURPOSE - ('what' we do) embraces actions:
To reach out to the poor and needy in our community with the love of Jesus Christ
OUR PRINCIPLES - (the ‘why’) are similarly derived from Jesus’ cry for action.
In Matthew’s Gospel account, Jesus said:
I was hungry and you gave me something to eat
I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink
I was a stranger and you invited me in
I needed clothes and you clothed me
I was sick and you looked after me
I was in prison and you came to visit me
Put differently, Jesus is saying that our actions speak so much louder than our words.
OUR PATH - (the ‘how’) is centered upon those impassioned words from Jesus.
Taking each of those words, 5 Branches have been established and form the basis
of Tree of Life ministries.
I was hungry – Food
I was thirsty – Lifeskills
I was a stranger and needed clothes – Shelter
I was sick – Healthcare
I was in prison – Relief
Importantly, the Path of Tree of Life is rooted in Prayer as our desire is to share the love of Jesus with all we meet.
